Hey Little Fella!

Hey Little Fella!

It’s always fun when the first plants come up in the garden. We planted our seed potatoes back in February and it’s so nice to see the plants coming up and looking so healthy. The funny thing is that we haven’t even had to water them. The winter was so wet, and our soil retains it so long that we have not watered with the exception of when we put the seed potatoes in the ground. I must say that potatoes are among my favorite thing to grow in the garden. The plants are always green and healthy and then when it’s time to harvest it’s like a treasure hunt. There is nothing more satisfying than digging up potatoes and seeing how many potatoes come from a single plant. For now, I’ll just enjoy looking at these beautiful plants as they grow.

This week we plan to put our cucumbers, broccoli, and peppers in the ground. My husband has built a plastic mulch layer for us to use. I’ll be sure to post pictures and videos of how it works. This year it’s probably more work than just laying the mulch out by hand, but in the future I’m sure it will save us much time and sweat. I can’t wait until planting day, but for now, we’re enjoying another wet and cool day here in the south.
