As this wet winter comes to an end, we are looking forward to spring. Our winter has not been too cold, but it has been wet and dreary. Our garden is being prepped and we are looking forward to planting season. Actually, the seed potatoes are already in the ground, and we await the day when we see sprouts immerge from the earth. We have several trays of seeds in the hoop house that should be ready to put in the ground soon.
This time of year is always exciting as we look forward to all of the possibilities the spring season will bring to us. I do have several projects that I plan to do this spring. One project is to plant a “chicken garden.” I ordered a pack of seeds, some of which are vegetables that we don’t usually eat. I plan to plant these and some of our extra veggies in an area that I’ll let my chickens graze. I’m excited for them because I know how much they enjoy the greens that we share from the garden. A second project is a raised bed garden. We have several IBC totes that I plan to use for my raised beds. I know it doesn’t sound very pretty, but I think this is a good and functional option for creating raised beds.
